 2018 World Champions!

Welcome to Abbeyknockmoy Handball Club

There has been a great tradition of handball in Abbeyknockmoy for many years, dating back to the 1930’s in the ‘old alley’ on the outskirts of the village. This alley is still in existence but thankfully the tradition is continued today in more comfortable surroundings at the nearby Hurling Club Centre. The centre boasts excellent facilities for all ages involved in the sport. These include a 1x40x20 court, a 1x60x30 court and a 1xOne-Wall court.

The parish is renowned for its for passion for sport especially all things GAA. It boasts hurling, football, camogie and handball clubs which cater for all ages and abilities. The entire village has a proud association with these clubs and through their participation and support keep enthusiasm at a high level.

60×30 All-Ireland title

On Sunday , 14th of October 2018 , Abbeyknockmoy Handbal Club in the form of Mikey Kelly created a unique record. In Lahorna Co. Tipperary . Mikey added the U14 60×30 All-Ireland title to the two others he won earlier in the year. He is now the 60×30 , 40×20 and One-Wall U14 All-Ireland Champion. This caps off a fantastic year for the young handballer having also won the National One-Wall championship in 15&Under , World Championship One-Wall 15&U and also 2 Silver medals at the World Championships.

It also caps of the year for the Abbeyknockmoy Handball Club as in 2018 they amassed no fewer than 16 titles at National and World level , 10 Golds at the World Championships , 3 All-Irelands and 3 National Championships. Not bad for a small West of Ireland Club.

Club Refurbishments

Over the last year we have been refurbishing our indoor alley including a brand new floor. We also have added new heaters, carpeting and an extractor fan to keep humidity down. We are also in the process of installing a kitchen. We hope that these refurbishments will attract new members and more national competitions to the club.
